Autostrada Lotus Racing

Autostrada Lotus are supporting Nick Mitic Motorsport as our Lotus Test Driver and Ambassador in 2017. Nick is a very talented young driver who has graduated from karts to formula ford open wheelers and has been given the chance to drive our Lotus Elise 220 Cup at various events during the year. In May, Nick was in action at the Autostrada Lotus track day and the time spent behind the wheel of the Elise put him in good stead for the 2017 Quit Targa West Tarmac rally that was held last weekend.

The Targa West is a 4 day event held around the Perth Hills area and culminates with the City of Perth super stages held on Langley Park in the CBD. Included in the Targa West is the 2 Day Rallye category which offers a condensed version of the rally and was seen as the perfect introduction to Rally driving for Nick who, at only 17, was required to compete with ‘P’ plates and was restricted to a maximum speed of 130 km/hr.

With 20 super stages held over the two days and a wide range of racing terrain and changing weather conditions, the 2 Day Rally category was very tightly fought with less than 3 minutes separating the top 3 teams going into the last leg. Earlier in the day Nick and co-driver Geoff Duckworth had recorded the fastest time for 2 of the 3 super stages at the technical Malaga street circuit and were able to repeat this result at the City of Perth leg, winning 2 of the 3 super stages and holding onto 3rd place only 2:16 down on the winning team.
